Optical band gap from reflectance spectra

WebDec 1, 2024 · Optical absorption is considered as a powerful tool to obtain a deeper insight into the spectral behavior of the optical band gap ( E g ), the nature of electronic transitions between the valance bands and the conduction bands in thin films, Urbach energy ( E U ), Steepness parameter ( σ) and electron-phonon interaction energy ( E e - p ). WebThe optical band gap, E g value, was obtained by extrapolating the linear region of the curve to the zero absorption at which αhν = 0, and the results are presented in Table 5, which summarizes the bandgap (E g) values for the samples with 1, 5, and 9 nm Ag ultrathin films and the PET, PETs, and SO substrates, and the bandgap displacement (Δ ...

WebJan 1, 2024 · The determination of the optical band gap energy ( E g) is important for optimization of the generation of electron/hole pairs in semiconductor materials under illumination. For this purpose, the classical theory proposed by Kubelka and Munk (K-M) has been largely employed for the study of amorphous and polycrystalline materials. WebThe direct optical energy gap can be obtained from the intercept of the resulting straight lines with the energy axis at (α hv) 2 = 0. Plotting the imaginary part ε 2 versus the photon energy as shown in Figure 7, the optical energy gap obtained and found to be 3.0 - 3.3 eV.
