WebThe National Pan-Hellenic Council was formed in 1930 at Howard University and serves to foster cooperative actions and promote the well-being of the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities that make up the council. Each of these groups evolved at a time when African American were denied essential rights and services. Most of Howard's 21 NCAA Division I varsity teams compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
